Burgess Hill bonfire

Burgess Hill bonfire is planned for 26th September. Our 40th year also.
Clunk

Busy night on the 31st then!

If we finish as early as we usually do, I should be able to get up to Newick in time for the fireworks.

Another year when I don't get to Littlehampton, hopefully 2010 Sean and co Very Happy
Ghoti

Nothing for the 24th then?

I do hate no events in the middle of the season, I seem to forget what to do on a Saturday night.  Perhaps there will be another pub crawl around Lewes like previous years.

Still, last 'quiet' year in Lewes before a Friday and Saturday night.
forrest

I'm guessing that on the 24th October will be Nevill, Firle & Staplecross.
Clunk

I'm guessing East Hoathly will go on the 7th Nov and will no doubt be heaving as usual, then Barcombe and Robertsbridge on the 14th.
rockape65

Yeah we thought that then also thought it highly unlikely that Rye would run on the same night as Battle so maybe they'll run on the 14th pushing Robertsbridge and Barcombe out to the 21st? could be some interesting dates still to come. East Hoathly on 14th maybe?  scratch
forrest

Yes looks like the second half of the season could be interesting as far as dates are concerned.
forrest

Ok peeps, just been doing some fishing for some more dates and after speaking to one of my many contacts I can now cxonfirm that Rye will be on the 14th Nov and Robertsbridge on the 21st Nov. So a updated calender now looks something like this.

Firecracker

Not sure that its been confirmed yet. I know Forrest has had difficulty finding out, I'm sure he'll let you know as soon as he does. Isnt it usually Sat after Lewes, or nearest Sat to 11th Nov Question  Confused
guyfawkesforpm

Remembrance Sunday is the 8th this year so East Hoathly will be Saturday the 7th  has they always run the Saturday before Remembrance Sunday
Firecracker

I was almost right Exclamation  Laughing

What are we going to do on the 10th?! We cant have a week without a bonfire to go to. Any ideas anyone?
Clunk

East Grinstead needs a bonfire Wink  Laughing

A blank week in the middle of the season is no fun!
forrest

Funny you should  say that Clunk as I was thinking the very same thing as i was walking around the town getting my bearings this morning. A torchlight procession through the old town would look very nice I feel.  Very Happy
guyfawkesforpm

just a idea  Idea how about moving the wedding to the 10th and going to Valencia next year  Wink
rockape65

Hows about we find a big field we can borrow, arrange a bloody great big beer tent, build a monster bonfire and let rip!!! (Bring your own fireworks and no public allowed!!!!)  Very Happy   Effigy built co-operatively with appropriate theme!   Laughing
Clunk

Sounds good Rockape but I'm sure H+S would put a stop to it, speaking of which we have a window for Eastbourne to try and run again Cool
rockape65

Ahh but you see it would be a private do!! no entry fee, no public, no health & safety busy bodies!! Would be great if Eastbourne BS could pull it off for the 10th (if only to see Nick in his new Pirate finery!!) but they're leaving it a bit late!!! If they don't get a bonfire up and running soon they'll never get one going, I imagine the Police and council will block any attempt to start a new bonfire anywhere!!! But there's no harm hoping!
forrest

Yes would be nice if Eastbourne could get off the ground this year seeing as there is now a free Saturday in the calender. All depends on the emergency services etc.
Firecracker

I think Eastbourne getting a night together on the 10th Oct would be the best idea, not sure how East Grinstead would feel about us taking over their town for the night. At the very last we need a party of some kind that night. Maybe Forrest and I should bring the wedding forward!  Laughing
OoleyTooley1

Eastbourne date

Hi all,
at last I can stop lurking and give you some news.  Eastbourne has permission to run an event on Saturday 24th October. Details and invitations will follow later in the year.

Sadly we realise that we clash with others and apologise to those societies however Eastbourne will be looking at keeping this date in the future as it’s the same day as the Eastbourne marathon.  We have been working away in the background with the local council and the date was decided upon a long time ago but we were not very inclined to publish it after events (or not!) in recent years.  We would have been very unlikely to get permission to run on 10th as it’s the same day as the Eastbourne Beer Festival.

However we are all pretty happy as I'm sure you can appreciate!
Cheers! Very Happy
rockape65

That's great news, well done to everyone concerned can't imagine that was a smooth ride!!! Would rather it was the same day as the beer fest!!!  PDT_Aliboronz_24 Hope it's not the same route as the half marathon!!!!  Confused
forrest

Thats great news for Eastbourne Bonfire and all involved with them. Here's hoping you have a great night and all goes well for you. Shame you werent able to fill the free weekend we have in the calender because of the resasons stated. But at least you're of the ground and running.

Yes good news about Eastbourne. Now just got to make up my mind where to go on the 24th & 31st October!  Confused
Clunk

Usually it would be Nevill for me but Eastbourne needs the support so I'll be there, if this year is a success hopefully it'll be a regular.
forrest

Anyone out there got itchy feet yet Question  Only another 19 weeks or 4 1/2 months to go until september
rockape65

Only seems to be a few of us about Mr Forrest!!!! Thought Eastbournes great bit of news might generate a flurry of activity but alas none was forthcoming!! All I can assume is that they're all bogged down by the health and safety minefield and too busy preparing for their respective nights or they're down the Seagulls shop trying to get their tickets for Saturday? (don't bother unless you're on your own, been trying to get a block of three - but to no joy!!) Come on the Seagulls!!!!
forrest

I got my ticket for today's game about 8 weeks ago. Or should i say Firecracker got it fr=or me.  Very Happy
rockape65

I must admit I was certainly felling the ssame yesterday afternoon when the final whistle went at the Withdean. Oh happy days.
Firecracker

Lol, I don't know whether Forrest was more excited before or after the game, he was like a giggley school boy!  Laughing
rockape65

Well get in there quick girl, before it wears off!!! Now's the time to be asking for all those little extras for the wedding!!!  Laughing
Firecracker

Very good idea Exclamation  Although in fairness I am usually one of those girls that gets what I want Laughing
I'm sure I could think of a few more things though  Exclamation  Laughing
rockape65

Uh oh! Think you'd better get some overtime in Forrest sounds like you may be needing a little extra cash soon!  Laughing Hope you both have many great Bonfire seasons together, talking of Bonfire, I don't know if any of their members are registered here yet but thought i'd say hello and welcome to Isfield Bonfire society who joined the Sussex Bonfire council on Wednesday evening, always good to see our numbers swell, apparently they intend to hold some kind of procession, though no date was given. (If anyone has their contact details would you be so kind as to post them to me via a PM so we can keep our records up to date - Thanks) The thing that worried me was how many societies reported a shortfall in financies!! Could be our biggest threat over the coming year or two!! Oh, don't know if you're aware Forrest but Neville confirmed their event as the 24th on Wednesday night.
forrest

Mmmm Isfield. Not much over there. but hey hopefully they'll run on the 10th October so we don't have a spare weekend. Love to do some overtime at work except there's none avaliable at the mo. So having to do some Sunday's instead which is extra pay and have a day off in the week.

As for finances i feel thats another thread.
Firecracker

I'm sure it won't matter how little Isfield has, bonfires are always fun, its the people that make it enjoyable and like you say hopefully they will run on the 10th October, we have to do something that night and it would be good if as many of us as possible can go to support them as well as Eastbourne on the 24th.
rockape65

Crumbs!! Don't know if i'd want to fly solo on my first ever event!! I know they've been doing fireworks for years but don't know what experience they've got over there with regard to the managment of the procession, the torches etc etc. But FC is right, no matter how big or small we've gotta stick together and support each other.
Firecracker

I have to be honest, myself and Forrest desperatly need something to happen on the 10th as we need an excuse not to be somewhere Exclamation  Laughing
Maybe we could organise our own get together, a Sussex Bonfire Forum night out Laughing
On second thought is that wise  Exclamation  Rolling Eyes  Laughing
Firecracker

Ive just had another idea  Idea , not sure if its any good but hey ho, worth suggesting. Is there any way we could organise an event on the 10th Oct to raise funds for all bonfire societies or at least the ones that are willing to help/attend. I'm not sure what and I'm sure there is someone alot cleverer than me out there that could think of something. Just a thought Question
forrest

A sponsored drink-a-thon?  Laughing
Firecracker

I'm being serious Exclamation  There must be something we could do.
rockape65

If we can't find anything Bonfire related to do lets all just hop on the ferry to Dieppe that morning and spend the day on a fact finding mission/cultural exchange!  Wink

I understand that Isfield are holding their night on 30th October (friday) but will not be inviting societies to procession in their first year. Still can go as member of public.

Only 8 weeks to go until Uckfield!
Firecracker

Lol and we wont be here to go!  Rolling Eyes
forrest

Just to get everybody going I've opened up a few of the celebration threads for this year. Not long o go now, I can almost smell the torches and gunpowder  Exclamation   Very Happy
rockape65

How's about on the "spare" 10th arranging a firework display or something for serving soldiers, veterans and their families? To show our appreciation of our troops in our own unique way, would be a massive PR coup. I would do safety officer. risk asessments etc as we're all wrapped up at hailsham. I'm sure we would have no trouble getting funds if we nailed the media. And would the Police dare oppose it? Just a thought, Oh and a beer tent, me thinks!!!!!
Firecracker

Sounds good to me, they need all the help and support they can get!
Ghoti

Looks like Waterloo are going to hold their costume comp on that spare Saturday, so at loeast it will still be a bonfire related activity with beer for me  Wink
