It is the Bonfire Comps this Friday. If costumes are you thing, it is worth the entry fee so you can see all of the Lewes Societies' costumes up close in good light.
As usual, I'm still putting the finishing touches to the costume (OK, BHBS Bird is doing it ) but we will be there in our Mongolian outfits. Hopefully the heating will be broken as it gets very hot stood there in lots of fur (I know the Vikings have similar problems). There is a bar to help keep refreshed though

AS BONFIRE fever builds in Lewes, the boys and girls of the town's societies unveil some of their fantastic outfits at a costume competition on October 17.
The event takes place at Lewes Town Hall and is organised by Lewes Bonfire Council.
Roger Meyer, secretary of the bonfire council, said: 'Bonfire night spectators often complain that they do not have much of a chance to fully appreciate the magnificent costumes on the night. Cliffe Bonfire Society retained the overall championship last year but the other societies are certain to pull out all the stops to try to prevent a repeat.'
The competition features seven classes, starting with children at 6.15pm. Adults will be judged between 8 and 11pm.
Admission is £2.50 for adults and 50p for children aged between five to 15.

It was great to be able to see all those magnificent costumes. Usually you only get a good look at whoever's in front during the procession and people are always milling about during the interval. Only regret I had was missing the kids' efforts as I couldn't get there before 8.
