Does anyone actually go to Chailey
Gabriel Tomkins
curious - never heard a good word for chailey on here yet they still get listed as a "bonfire society", even so far as having their colours mentioned, so what's the score ? same with cuckfield, winchelsea and even clapham and patching, who get a mention in this years robertsbridge programme - anyone ever heard of them before ? is it just a case that they are all members of the sussex bonfire council, although they may not actually stage what we would all call "proper" events ?
by the way, i've heard mention recently of "the eighth lewes society" - would that be st annes - are they still extant though not operational ?

Chailey have been around for quite a few years now. They're only a small society. Their night is over with fairly early. I remember years ago, when I was a youngster Lindfield used to go over there & do their fireworks for them.
Its fair to say that they don't go to many outmeetings, though they're due to attend Lindfield on the 'Fifth'.
As regards to Cuckfield & Winchelsea all they have is firework displays, not proper societies as per say.
Clapham & Patching Bonfire Club as they are known, have a small celebration normally the weekend after the 'Fifth'. They raise the money for fireworks by annual subscription, well used to. Their torches are unusual too, as they are a tin can nailed/wired to the top of a stick filled with paraffin soaked wadding.
Hope this helps Gabriel.
As for the eight Lewes society can't help you there mate.
Hope this help Gabriel

the younger members of littlehampton use to go to clapham and patching in stead of ehhbs one and only time I went must have been about 1976, after that considered old enough to go to ehhbs. Guyfawlksforpm went in 1990 when our minibus for ehhbs broke down.
