Hi all,
Just to clarify a couple of points about Fletching and the road closure this year, the decision to close the roads further out than they are normally and the times set are for the following:
Over the last few years we have had more than our share of trouble with the kids from out of the village due to drink they bring in, so we have decided to move the road closure to make it harder for them to be brought in by there loving parents (they will have to walk). The police will also be at these points to turn any away.
As for the parking times the roads are open to the public up until 6 pm with parking we provide, there after the roads are closed to all public, except members from visiting societies if they ask for a pass they can still get in until 6:30 pm (passes are available from their secretaries).
Coaches will be aloud threw the barriers after this time but will be asked to park near the turn around end due to the procession setting up.
This is all due to last year we had several coaches trying to get into the village as we were forming up for the first procession which meant all our torch marshals were parking and not handing out our torches which delayed things.
I would like to emphaise this is all down to the committee and not down to any police involvement the police are very good to us and good for our night they have not made any restrictions on our night at all, and have given us there support in our new road closures.
I hope this clears up any misunderstandings but as far as Fletching thinks this can only make our night more enjoyable for all our members
I would also like other societies to note that fletching has a very hard working but very small number of active workers to cope with the large crowed that turn out each year , in what is after all a small village.
I hope you all still come to suport us this year as really there is not any change that should affect any visiting society
If any one still has any questions please PM me or write to fletching direct.

Should be as Fletching had a boom box at some meetings I noticed . Whats good for one is good for others in my book.

Sorry no Boom Boxes at Fletching, and we didnt have one just ended that way when some one introduced homer to rookies !!!!! ha ha

Ok no worries, cheers, see you all there.

Thats a great shame, our BOOM BARREL(made with a concrete mixer and gas cylinder), which has now become famous around the circuit is actually encouraged by other societies to their outmeetings as a safe and controlled way of letting off rookies and bangers thus discouraging people from lobbing them in ditches, hedges etc!

Strange that . . Thought I saw a small beer barrel on the back of that trolley with a hole cut in the top . . I must be mistaken !
|
smithey
|
that barrel on our trolly was for us to put our rubbish in not any thing else but a lot of the public do put some cash in to it now and again
|

|
The only reason a rookie ended up in Fletching's barrell was due to certain people encouraging a cerain person to do it for a laugh. Names withheld to protect the people in question.

I can vouch for Fletching on their trolley, saw it last night and said beer barrel was full of rubbish

Not to sure why we drag it around, ffoeg started with one of the lockness monster in a toilet sevral years ago, then he made the simpsons and now william wallis and gromet, the public seem to like it so he will keep going with it.
As for the shopping trolley, thats becouse a few years ago when we had fewer member walking who could carry torches we pulled them in the trolley and although we have more bods now it's stuck and the kids like to feel important, and there our future so we gotta keep them happy.
I hope thats answered you question, not very exciting but thats it -
But then again we all think he's mad for pulling the bloody thing around

On the way back to Cyprus Road, I found them "shopping" at the Chinese Chippy. I'd planned to end the evening with a greasy kebab, but decided to go for chips and a battered sausage. I'm glad I did as they were the nicest chips I've had in a long time The battered sausage is recovering nicely too

No problem, the pleasure was all ours. Thanks to the boys and girls of Fletching BS for being the perfect hosts. The road closure plan worked a treat, what a pleasure it was to be able to leave the village when the time came instead of waiting for an hour coz some biff had blocked the lane. And we only had one yob to bundle out of the ranks this year!!! Bargain!!

One thing i noticed on the firesite was the lack of society members. Usually there are hundreds. Even with 3 other bonfires on there were hardly any people on the society side during the fireworks.
Their masterplan obviously worked well for them, numbers seemed down and less societies attended.
I just hope Fletching havnt kicked themselves in the foot detering people from their night as surely the bar and collection takings must be down this year!?
|
Firecracker
|
I think the bar did ok, I gave up trying to get to it
|
RICH ROOKIE
|
We never do very well in our collections as most of the public are youngsters, however we did do well this year as we have a great collecting team. Clashing was great for us as it was far more managable no bottle neck outside bar etc. The parking restrictions worked well, we had no arrests and no agro a nice quiet night very different from last year. Thank you all for coming
|
The Plotter
|
No arguements from me, as you said R.Rookie it deffinately worked well and no queues anywhere.

Glad you guys had a good night

Heard the A272 at Piltdown was abit of a nightmare afterwards with cars dumped on the side of the road and people walking all over it. Not exactly safe, accident waiting to happen me feels.
|
Firecracker
|
Exactly what I thought as I drove through. Very dangerous
|
Snowflake
|
I totally agree with BonfireBoy the A272 was an accident waiting to happen. As I left there were cars on every verge both sides of the road and people all over the place. Getting out from Fletching was fantastic though

Yep my raw burger went in the bin. when I went to complain they took it off me and gave it back. Hence the bin treatment. Otherwise a great night.
|
forrest
|
Yes the A272 was madness on the way out. How all them jay walkers in the road didnt get hit, is beyond me. Certainly needs to be looked at for next year as drivers still fly down there dispite it now being a 40mph limit.
|
RICH ROOKIE
|
If any one has any ideas on how we can stop public turning up late, hence the main road parking we would be most grateful, we had to stop entry into the village after 6.30 as this is when our procession lines up and we need the marhsals back in the village, we will address this next year but coming up with a solution is not easy. SORRY about the burgers we shall have a word !
|
forrest
|
I totally agree with what you had to do Rich Rookie. i don't think there is an easy solution to the problem of parking on the main A272. Most of us bonfire types know what to expect when leaving an event. The only thing that springs to mind is maybe getting Mr Plod to possibly stick no parking cones on the A272. It's certainly something that I think is beyond Fletching's control and at the end of the day where people dump there cars isnt really your problem, unless its inside your exclusion zone.

Could anyone tell us if the road was as bad as East hoathly's parking?
As they have parking doubled up on by pass, on the roundabouts and on the center chevrons .
many thanks
