Hailsham 17/10/09

Just for Rockape who asked me to open the thread for their celebrations. So all info and gossip on Hailsham here please.
rockape65

Thank you very much sir. Hope I didn't cause you any hassle!!
Sorry nothing very exciting to report.  I know most of the societies that attend Hailsham don't have representation on these boards, but here we go. Righty-o Boyes and Belles. There are going to be some changes to Hailsham bonfire for the 2009 event, not only will there be a longer more "scenic" route for this years event but following talks between us and the Police due to ever increasing crowd numbers around the town centre we have decided to employ "Boom boxes" for our rookies, as used at Hastings and Robertsbridge instead of dropping them on the floor, I think if we hadn't made this offer the Police would have made the decision for us and banned them completely, (obviously this doesn't apply to the firesite where you are free to enjoy your celebration however you see fit) We still want to hear as much noise as possible in the procession, so in order to keep the noise levels up it is my intention to try and supply visiting socities with "Boom boxes" should they require them. Therefore if you intend to attend Hailsham this year and would like a "Boom box" for your society please let me know via PM or these boards at the earliest opportunity so that I can do my best to try and arrange for one to be made for you.
Ghoti

Waterloo put up a little contingent last year, but we mainly do Hastings (I think that is what clashes with you - really must check the diary before starting a reply!).

I'll let people who may be interested in Hailsham again know.
forrest

No it wasn't any hassle mate.

The boom box requested for the use of Waterloo Bonfire society at Hailsham has gone into production, we hope to have it ready in time for a "test run" at Rotherfield.  Very Happy

Okay, just to clarify the rules regarding the discharge of Fireworks at Hailsham Bonfire for visiting societies.

No fireworks to be discharged at the HQ either before the 1st pocession or during the interval.

We request that you pay your respects and do not discharge fireworks during the procession to the war memorial.

Once the firecrackers have been fired at the war memorial "Boom boxes" only are allowed in the High St

Once you have left the High St and turned right into vicarage lane the Police will tolerate the safe discharge of fireworks on the ground for the remainder of the 1st procession until you reach South rd (approx 100yds from the HQ) where a marshal will ask you to cease the discharge of Fireworks.

No fireworks at the turnaround please!!

2nd Procession, once you have left South rd (a marshal will tell you when you are clear) the Police will again tolerate the safe discharge of Fireworks on the ground for the whole of the second procession including the High st (provided the C in C or I don't decide it's too crowded) a marshal will ask you to cease the discharge of fireworks as you approach the firesite due to the fact we have to pass through the crowd.

This has taken some serious negotiations to get this concession from the Police, if you are intending to attend Hailsham please don't screw  this up for us!!

As usual, once you're on the firesite..............Fill yer boots!!!

Sounds fair enough and fun !
Ghoti

Well negotiated that man.  Seems very fair and lets hope it is respected by the societies for use at future bonfires.

Talking to Waterloo members, it looks like the same group as last year will be going (we had such fun) with the possibility of a few addidtions.
Darkstar

Excellent news about banger tolerance and boom boxes, etc Smile Shame about the flares (nice legs though) Wink Would love to come "fill my boots" at Hailsham, but will be going "Boomshakalaah" at Hastings  Twisted Evil

The "boom box" requested by Waterloo for use in the 1st procession in the High st at Hailsham is complete and has been road tested and is now in the paint shop, we are taking it to Rotherfield for acoustic tests!!!!!  Smile  Anyone from Waterloo is welcome to pop back during the procession for a "test drive" (we're only three socities behind you in the procession) It'll be the middle one of the three we're taking.

Can I be a test pilot

Can we all be test pilots Question  Exclamation  Very Happy

Seeing as it's a "test run" it would be rude NOT to allow our Bonfire brethren to give it a good work out!! Just hope she's loud enough, otherwise it'll be  Embarassed all round!!! lol

Is it just me or does the 17th seem an awful long way off though?

rockape65

It's only a deliberately small event but you should enjoy yourselves we've always had a "relaxed" attitude towards the use of fireworks in the procession anyway, but it'll be nice not having to look over our shoulders for our friends in blue, lol, Oh, and Harveys is £2.08 a pint at the HQ if my memory serves me right!!! Bargain!!

Them boom boxes worked a treat at rotherfeild from what i could see on saturday.

Pitty about the "blank weekend" although i have been invited to the waterloo costume comps so that should give me a little fix

Peace out and keep safe

When and where is that comp . . Mite go and have a peep
rockape65

Ahhhh the mighty Firle, we look forward to welcoming you all to our little event.

Shadow and Ghoti, i've written good weather into the event plan this year so we shouldn't have any repeats of the 2006 event, that was a wee oversight on our part! Uckfield and Rotherfield made the same mistake last year if you remember! It's soooo easy to miss the little things, there's so much to cover!!! lol.

Hi There.

So that we are clear on everything . . No Flares . . Bangs Only In Boom Boxes . . Fill Your Boots In The PlayPen Though ! . . Have You A Boom Box We Can Borrow X X
rockape65

Sorry, it's too late to manufacture another "Boom box" they've been made for those that requested them, please find our policy regarding the discharge of Fireworks in the procession below. We have negotiated long and hard to get the concession from the Police to discharge Fireworks on the ground and ask societies to respect our rules so that we may continue to have it for future events at Hailsham. Thanks.

Hope the above answers your question V. As for Flares well, hmmmmm, errr, dunno, don't like em, but we ain't gonna fall out if anyone uses em, just keep hold of 'em til they cool down and dispose of the tubes at the firesite coz those tubes stay hot for ages!!!!

Also apologies to everyone but I did a recce at the HQ and found out Harveys is £2.10!!!! not £2.08 as previously claimed!!! In the interests of good research I bought a number of pints to ensure the barman hadn't made a mistake!!!! lol.
V

Thanks for the info but £2.10 ! . . . Not sure I can afford that now . . Thats taken the edge of a bit lol . . I wont bring any flares in that case . . At least I know before hand the Preferences . Spose you still havent a spare boom box that needs a road test !
Ghoti

I was told Harveys was £2.08 and it was going to be fine weather.

Now it is £2.10 a pint and chance of drizzle.

Still, I expect if cliffe help again they will have washed their stripes this year Wink

arrow  Wink  Cool  Shocked  Surprised  Crying or Very sad  Sad  Very Happy  Idea  Rolling Eyes  Evil or Very Mad  that should be enough families to stop me becoming a boom box for that last comment.
rockape65

yeah sorry about the mis-information over the cost of the Harveys  Confused lol, As far as were concerned we've still got good weather booked, and yes our friends from the Cliffe BS are helping with the road closures but from what I've heard Waterloo are coming bombed up sufficiently well enough to defend themselves anyway!!! lol
V

bonfire_matt

Good luck to all at Hailsham for this weekend

Matt
rockape65

Cheers Matt, we're gonna need it!!! lol.
V

Any suggestions as to where we can park . . Also the name of the road where you form up please . . Thanks
rockape65

Form up is at the HQ (the Hailsham memorial institute) in Western road there are ample public car parks around the town provided you get into the town before 7pm when the road closure starts to kick in. The easiest one is probably the one in North st (the co-op car park)
