InsuranceHello,
Does anyone have any details about the best companies to go to for insurance to cover bonfire events for the day only? In other words just the procession, bonfire and fireworks? Also, do you need to be a registered company to take out such insurance?

Think you'll find most societies have their insurance policies with Zurich. no need to be a ltd company to get it. If you intend going for procession, fireworks etc on your night you'll need a minimum of £10 million public liabilty cover. The cost of this cover will set you back in the region of £2500.

Wow, that might just have stopped all ideas of doing anything this year. I have no idea how we are going to raise money like that in such a small village in such a short time. Perhaps we are looking to start next year

Thats just your insurance costs. Depending on how big you're looking to go you would be roughly looking at £7000 to put your night on at least.

Hang slack mate, don't give up yet! Hailsham's insurance costs nothing like that amount and is fully compliant with all our legal obligations, we have a committee meeting on Thursday, i'll have a chat with our treasurer and see if I can get back to you with some figures that may be easier to swallow. Can't promise anything as our insurers may sponsor us but here's hoping!!

Also! Even if you do find that holding an event is beyond you this year, you can still form a society, join the Sussex Bonfire council and attend as many outmeetings as you can, that way you get to meet everyone, press some flesh and make contacts, you may find there are people willing to join your ranks and help out, as many people are members of several societies.

Hi Sulis as promised, I spoke to our Treasurer last night and he tells me that our insurance is heavily subsidised so it's unlikely our Insurers would give you the same deal, However!! When he was shopping around for our Insurance cover he was given a quote of £1000 by One Answer Insurance Solutions in George St Hailsham, their number is 01323 843311, you may find this figure just a little easier to work with!
