Martin Winters arrest has turned up on youtube, I've no idea what he did or didn't do but it's fair to say that he's had a terrible 12 months.

According to this article in the Sussex Express
| Quote: | | Police allege Mr Winter demanded Borough Bonfire Society should be allowed to pass through a police cordon to march up School Hill. He is alleged to have been aggressive and pushed an officer. |
Which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me since according to the Borough Program the Societies and it's guests (Inc. Eastbourne) were always intended to march down Friars Walk and Lansdowne Place, then up St. Andrews Lane after the United Grand? Which is what we all did.....

Plus technically the Police can't stop them as Borough have the key to the town, which means they can go anywhere with out being hassled by the old bill. So much for having the freedom of Lewes on Bonfire Night.

And there was the whole of Waterloo on School Hill coming down at the time, which is where Borough had just come from. When Waterloo got the Boots corner, the Police were trying to send us down Cliffe and did not have the road cleared for us to turn left.

i'm not surprised there was some confusion as to who was going where at some points - there is no coherent list or map available of what procession is going where and when, and the mass of spectators between friars walk and eastgate would just surge towards whichever one of the four roads appeared to have the next procession on it - bit harsh to blame plod for any problems, and the only way to ensure it don't happen again would be to keep the entire junction clear in all directions all night, which would be completely crap !
anyway - since when did a bit of fuss and confusion ever detract from the night !

There was a map in one of the papers showing the United Grand but I think it would be a good idea for the Lewes Bonfire Council to release one showing not just that but those for the individual societies with times. More informative signposting might be helpful as well...
