So where is everyone going on the 27th????

With lots of celebrations to choose from, where is everyone going to be on the 27th October?
Ghoti

I've been told I'm going to Littlehampton. I think we are going on the Waterloo bus if they can take a kiddies seat so that will teach Ashley a few new words and songs!
bhbsbird

Yes we were informed Wink by several members of WBS that we were going on the Waterloo coach Shocked to Littlehampton.

I always enjoy their night so its no great hardship Very Happy

I'll be at Staplecross as I havent done that one yet. Done Littlehampton & Nevill, so time for a change.

bit of a shame, five different bonfire events on the one night, when there was a blank weekend on september 22nd !

looks like a bit more contact between various societies wouldn't go amiss next year - do the sussex bonfire council do nothing to stop this sort of situation arising ? Confused
Pyro_Phil

Staplecross for me too Exclamation

Don't forget that Eastbourne were due to be running on 22/09/07 so there would not have been a free weekend then if there council had done the decent thing and granted them the road closure to allow them to hold there first celebrations Wink

Also various societies dates are historical and they would not be able to move... ie BHBS have traditionaly held their event on the last Sat in Sept for example Wink

As far as I'm aware, we're doing Littlehampton. Never done that one before. Should be fun!
BonfireBoy

I think that's all water under the bridge now. They've been fed and seem to be much more subdued. So hopefully that will be the end of it. My understanding is that their Victorian military section will be all in Victorian Royal Navy attire for Littlehampton in recognition of the obvious maritime links.

They asked me to give you this

I shall be going to Ewhurst & Staplecross with the rest of Eastbourne. Sadly the prohibition on stripes at Littlehampton prevents us from attending else we'd alternate...
forrest

Never realised they didn't let you wear stripes at Littlehampton. Shocked
Mercurius

That's what I've told. All visiting societies have to be in costume. Something to do with Littlehampton being more of a carnival event apparently.

As a re-enactor I've spent a small fortune to get kitted up as a Norman man-at-arms and I just can't afford to get my own society's Pirate costume on top of that.
w@ndérér

Haven't got a clue yet, don't know where the rest of the gang are going. I'm sure it'll be either littlehampton on staplecross.

we have the the biggiest bonfire in sussex Laughing so more bonfire
Bonfire fan

I think all societies look good.
lbs.me.uk

ok littlehampton will welcome any society to our celebration what the thing with stripes is that some members of the society don't like them full stop and have some idea on how they are not a bonfire costume so they don't want there members in stripes and are also convinced that if we start having stripes costumes will die out (but we be trying to get stripes for working duties eg marshalling (red and yellow))

but they cannot tell visiting societies what to wear so if you want to wear stripes go ahead also if you look the guy we ask to carry half of our fire banners is from burgesshill and wears there stripes the way i look at it personally is the more people and societies we have done the better as it is longer and more enjoyable for the crowds as the original liitlehampton motto said

OUR TRUE INTENT IS YOUR DELIGHT
scottfroml'ton

your not really supposed to wear stripes in L'ton really
(edit)
guyfawkesforpm

the committe of littlehampton have said that stripes are welcome
Guest

Well all i can say on the matter is that lbs dont want stripes for ther marshals.this is an on going debate between the lbs marshals and ther committe.societys that have stripes are more than welcome on lbs's night and I my self look forward to seeing more stripes turning up and all so costumes
guyfawkesforpm

I wondered why Newick was clashing with Battel this year, had they stayed on the last saturday in october like normal then none of the other society events would have had any visiting societies i suppose.

Newick always have their's the Saturday before the 5th, so some years it may be the last Sat in Oct or the first in Nov.
