I do feel so sorry for the residence of Lewes who are being inconvienced by these road closures. I hope that through the local newspapers or radio it is made clear that is was none of bonfires doing. No Forrest I do not think you are being cynical at all. One would think that for one night a year the powers that be would assist to keep such a tradition going. Sad  Mad

The 5th looks like being warm and wet

http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FR...;day=5&month=11&year=2009

Day              Time          Temp       Rain          Pressure          Dir                                     Speed
Thu 5 Nov     1:00          14 °c       7.8 mm      998 mb          [Wind from SSE (168°)]          2 mph
Thu 5 Nov    13:00         14 °c       5.8 mm    1,001 mb         [Wind from WSW (245°)]        4 mph

With a wet couple of days before the firesites will be fun!  That'll keep the crowds away even if the Police's plan fails.

Im in the aviation industry and take it from me.....i wouldnt take any notice of the weather forcast until 3 days before. October and November can create some irratic low pressure systems that can go as fast as they come so i wouldnt bother looking til nearer the time!

Yeah, it's tough on the residents, if they're not careful they'll have the roads all cleared but they'll be nobody at the celebrations except the police, everyone's drives will be empty too!

what's the best way to get into the town then?

Do you have to get tickets to commercial square or south street?
South Street's is earlier than the others isn't it.

Waterloo and Commercial square dont charge, other than that I think we all do. Cliffe you have to buy in advance, all others you can pay on the gate. Boroughs you can buy for £3 from Nevill newsagents or Lewes Information Centre or £5 on the gate on the 5th. All are free to get into though if you are a member of a visiting society  Very Happy

Great, thanks! Very Happy  As long as I can get in somewhere it's ok.

Is it possible to go to south street and then another after? or is that logistically/practically impossible?

It wouldn't be possible, not with all the crowds.
