Any of you lot made chainmain?

After reading up on it, I've decided I'm going to make it myself (or supervise BHBSBird do it like when I 'made' this year's costume Embarassed ).

I've found a supplier of the links, but I have no idea what size is best or how many I need for 2 sleeves, a bit around the bottom of the tunic and something to come off the hat.

Anyone got any ideas, tips and tricks or any advice that would help.

Thanks in advance.

Haven't got a clue on how to make chain mail. Bound to be something out there on the web. As for bhbsbird, best supervise her, shouldn't never let kids lose with sharp objects. Laughing

But good luck in your quest.

Thanks Forrest. I've found out how to do it, just need to know quantities and plans etc.

I hope there are no sharp objects in that badge making kit she is using tonight - I wont be there to supervise. Better give her sister a ring.

i.ve made chain mail. Not hard to do just time consuming. We used a heavy gauge galv wire. cross ection was about 2.5mm. you can buy a 25mtr coil for about £3.00 from most hardware shops. We then wound the wire round a length of 10mm dia dowlling so you ended up with a long spring like thing. Slid it off the dowl and using wire cutters chopped the spring into lots of split rings. We ended up making three complete suits with half arms. Cost about £25.00 in wire and three weeks per suit. Bloody heavey to wear but looked really good. the links just hook onto each other using an old wire coat hanger to form to panels front and rear then coupled them up. It sounds daunting but once you start it soon comes together. you just end up with odd shape thumbs thats all!
hope this is of some help.
